BF3 Assignments & Unlocks

The Back To Karkand DLC brings something new to Battlefield 3 (in addition to new maps, weapons etc.): Assignments, which is a new way of unlocking the new weapons found in Back To Karkand. Here’s the full list of Battlefield 3 Assignments that you need to complete in order to unlock all ten Back to Karkand weapons:

FAMAS (“Best Friend Forever” assignment)
10 heals
10 revives

L85A2 (“Professional Russian”)
100 kills with assault rifles
20 kills with grenade launcher
Win 5 rounds of Squad Deathmatch

MP5 / HK53 (“Fixing it”)
10 repairs
1 kill with repair torch

QBZ-95B (“It Goes Boom”)
50 anti-tank rocket kills
5 conquest round wins
Destroy 1 enemy vehicle with repair torch

QBB-95 (“Let It Rain”)
20 kills with light machine guns
2 mortar kills

QBU-88 (“Specops”)
20 sniper rifle kills
5 laser designator assists

MG36 (“Keep Your Head Down”)
100 kills with light machine guns
50 suppression kill assists

Back to Karkand Release Times

PS3 players have been enjoying Back to Karkand for about a week now and the rest of us Battlefield 3 players will gain access to the expansion pack starting tomorrow (expected to be in less than 10 hours from now). EA released the times for the highly anticipated Battlefield 3 expansion pack:
Xbox 360: starting at 09:00 GMT (4 AM EST)
PC digital: starting at 08:00 GMT (3 AM EST)
The Battlefield 3 systems will also be receiving an update at the same time and is expected to take about an hour. Server owners should be prepped for the server update, R12 sometime tomorrow as well, instructions can be found here. Battlefield 3 players will have access to the expansion pack in their respective platform's stores (those with the limited edition will not have to purchase the expansion pack).

Battlefield 3 trailer shows Gulf of Oman, jump jets, tiny yellow digger

At one point in the above trailer for the Back to Karkand Gulf of Oman map I had the sudden feeling that I had seen something very odd in the middle of all the explosions and collapsing buildings. After a couple of rewinds I discovered what it was. A tiny yellow digger, driven by a pair of engineers waltzing right through an insane fight between a tank, two buggies and a jump jet. Brilliant, but what the hell is it for?

The VTOL jets should also prove more effective against infantry targets than their speedier brothers, bringing air and ground combat closer together. All the more reason to get excited about the upcoming Back to Karkand expansion for Battlefield 3. It’s out next
month.

BF3 Client Update This Week

The DICE team are hard at work supporting Battlefield 3. To date, we have implemented several server updates to improve stability and performance. Next week we are publishing a significant Battlefield 3 client update for the PC. Console patches take a bit longer due to the certification requirements for console content, but it will follow shortly after the PC update.

So what’s in the PC patch? You’ll see improved polish, stability, weapons balancing, squad control functionality, user interface enhancements, and several feature enhancements that address feedback the community has provided to date – plus we’re removing the so called “negative mouse acceleration” that some of you have experienced.

Regarding cheating and boosting, we continue to analyze data to identify and hold accountable (ban, wipe stats) players that cheat or boost. We’ve received questions about what to do when faced with unsportsmanlike conduct in Battlefield 3 – the best course of action is to click the warning sign next to their profile name in Battlelog, or head to the EA Help Desk and report your issue. These leads will enable us to follow up on the report.
